PAST
Our initial goal was to regenerate the local village green and using the Renfrewshire Council led #TeamUpToCleanUp campaign we were able to achieve this allowing the area to become recognised as the valuable community asset it is.
Darkwood Crew is a constituted group of local residents who have a very clear aim of ‘helping Ferguslie flourish’ with a strong environmental ethos, focusing on 5 key areas
#FoodInsecurity #FuelPoverty #Isolation&Loneliness #MentalHealthPositivity #TheLocalEnvironment
Our work is underpinned by a belief that our local environment holds the key to addressing a number of historical social problems in the community including, but not limited to, health inequalities, long term unemployment, poor educational attainment, poor mental health, social exclusion & isolation.
PAST
Our initial goal was to regenerate the local village green and using the Renfrewshire Council led #TeamUpToCleanUp campaign we were able to achieve this allowing the area to become recognised as the valuable community asset it is.
PRESENT
Our five key focus areas existed prior to Covid however the arrival of the pandemic has allowed our group to dramatically enhance its program in direct response to community need and in many ways has allowed local people to become fully empowered to identify and implement creative and effective wider reaching solutions to some long standing local poverty based issues whilst also inducing a renewed community spirit of collective responsibility allowing it to navigate these difficult times more comfortably than first thought
FUTURE
Going forward we have plans to shortly become incorporated as a recognised charitable organisation in our own right with a view to advancing our clear mission to help Ferguslie flourish and contributing to the areas ongoing regeneration by empowering its people to solve its own challenges. We would like to play our part in eradicating food insecurity, fuel poverty and isolation & loneliness in our community and believe local people are better equipped to achieve this. We have aspirations of establishing both a community garden/ growing area and a locally based community pantry as part of a permanent legacy program of our Covid Response and Recovery efforts this past year.
